On May 28, we had the pleasure of attending James Lyng Adult Education Centre’s Literacy Fair for a second year in a row. With approximately 300 students in attendance, the event once again highlighted the importance of literacy, lifelong learning, and strong community connections.
The Literacy Fair brought together students, educators, and community organizations to celebrate education and promote access to valuable resources. We were pleased to participate and engage with students about the importance of literacy skills at every stage of life.
Throughout the event, we had the opportunity to share who we are at Literacy Quebec and highlight the work of our member organizations, who provide free literacy services and programs to English-speaking communities across Quebec. From one-on-one tutoring and group learning opportunities to skills development and community support, these services help empower individuals to build confidence, strengthen essential skills, and pursue personal and professional goals.
Events like the James Lyng Literacy Fair are an important reminder that literacy extends far beyond reading and writing—it plays a critical role in everyday life, employment, education, and social connection. We were encouraged by the strong turnout and the enthusiasm of students interested in learning more about available literacy supports and opportunities.
We would like to sincerely thank the faculty at James Lyng Adult Education Centre for their warm welcome and continued commitment to adult learning. We also extend our gratitude to our member, RECLAIM Literacy, for organizing another successful and meaningful event.
We are grateful for the opportunity to participate and look forward to attending again next year as we continue promoting the importance of literacy in strengthening communities across Quebec.
